About the Online Guild

Founded in May 2002, the Online Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers was established to meet the needs of fibre and textile artists unable to be involved in their local guilds. Since then our membership has grown to over 400, representing a truly worldwide community.

Through the Internet, members of all skill levels meet for fibre-related discussions and the opportunity to learn and share new skills and techniques. By utilising a private members-only website, members can participate in ongoing discussions, access a virtual library of resources, and enjoy online programmes and workshops.

In addition to receiving The Journal (see below), membership benefits include:

  • beneficial rates at the biennial Association of Guild’s Gathering/Conference and Summer School
  • opportunity to submit work to a national juried exhibition
  • ability to study for the Certificate of Achievement and Foundation Certificates
  • opportunity to send a delegate/observer to the annual AGM of the Association
  • the opportunity to ‘chat’ worldwide with others of similar interests
  • participation in group activities.

Our programme schedule offers a wide variety of opportunities both to learn and to teach. Past programmes have included kumihimo, triloom weaving, silk spinning, tapestry weaving, freeform crochet, indigo dyeing, felting, sewing with handwovens, and several rare breed challenges.

The Online Guild is affiliated to the UK Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers.

The Journal covers weaving, spinning, dyeing and related textile arts, with articles, project ideas, technical advice and news from guilds around the UK and beyond.
